June 24...the morning is clear, the rose nuts are here, and everyone's ready to roll.
The man in command? None other than Bill Sehl, Rose Judge and Bus Trip Leader Extraordinare.
When Joe D'Oria went to the head of the bus, we hoped he would lead us in a few rounds of "Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream..." But Alas! It was not to be!
Elizabeth Park - its name etched in foliage - opened in 1904, and is America's oldest municipal rose garden.
Throughout the Gardens are the Arches, 100 Years Old, covered with Red Crimson Rambler and Excelsa for the Crosswalks, and white and pink Dorothy Perkins for the Diagonal Walks...

Elizabeth Park Gardens is one of 22 All American Test Gardens. They test and evaluate new roses before they are introduced to the public. Below are 2 samples, one new one, one already established, of many roses that grow there.

There was Music in the air...

...and sweethearts everywhere ("Let me call you sweetheart...")
Cathy Smock, friend at her side, waving and looking Hollywood-cool.
Bridge over the pond - another touch of elegance found in this historic park.
Bill Sehl - A Man of Many Expressions...
Does Joe D'Oria check his watch because he wonders how much longer he must watch Bill Sehl wagging his tongue?
Bill & Kathy Kozemchak ponder the park; Could it be that June Benardella (center) ponders...
...that certain man with that certain something? M-m-m-m!
Can Frank Benardella handle all that ice cream? Well...
TA-DAH! He does! (Hey...behind Frank...that guy in the cap...
what's he up to? How'd he get in the picture?)
Two particular people we were especially glad to see be able to make our bus trip...

Left: Bob Clees
Right: Betty Jolly
The following threesome are featured in a new book entitled "Otherwise Normal People". So, without further ado, we present three "Otherwise Normal People" acting...well..."otherwise"...
Are John Mattia (left) & Frank Benardella (right) pointing out that Clarence Rhodes (center) tries too hard at using his head? If so...
...Clarence lets 'em know he's just as "Otherwise Normal" as they are! (Clarence seems to be doing his best Jimmy Cagney: "You dirty rats...")
The same day we were at the park, the Connecticut Rose Society was having its' Rose Show. Below are a few samples of the many roses presented in the Show...

Left: Royal Wedding
Right: Dublin

Fisherman's Friend
Ultimately, all good things must come to an end. ("I'm so glad we had this time together, just to have a laugh and sing a song [or, in this case, see the blooms]...")
Is Tom Mayhew planning how he'll make his garden grander than Elizabeth Park Gardens and Longwood Gardens combined?
This Bus Trip was a huge success! We gratefully acknowledge the tireless efforts of all involved who planned and arranged for this event to take place. Special Thanks to Bill Sehl for being the Bus Trip Leader Extraordinare! Thanks to Coach Bus Lines and their driver, Ray, for their cooperation in making this trip a very pleasant experience.
